Another full day in the open sea, and boy what a day it has been!  Early in the day the captain announced that the seas would be “fresh”.  It is evident that he defines “fresh” as 8-meter swells/waves, which is approximately 24 feet.  Adding to the swells was the high wind – 55 to 60 mph with 70+ mph gusts!  We were experiencing what would be called a tropical storm had we been in a tropical area.  Thankfully our doctor prescribed some patches for motion sickness and they’ve successfully warded off any issues.

The sea was nasty and angry when we sat down for lunch, and we had a magnificent view of the waves.  One wave hit so hard that we heard shattering glass in three areas of the dining room – pallets of wine glasses had crashed to the floor.  One of the next waves knocked a woman out of their chair.  Literally knocked her down as her chair tipped over and she landed on her shoulder!

The sea continued to be nasty throughout the day, but finally calmed down by dinner time.  This “fresh sea” experience could be a preview of what lies ahead in a few days when we cross the Drake Passage, known as having the angriest seas on the planet!

Sorry, no real pictures today.  Perhaps we’ll take a picture of the bottom of our shoes or some such, just to get you a photo.  😊
