Our last time to see a continent in over 48 hours!

The day started with a quick bus tour of Puerto Natales, including a stop at the town square. Here are some pictures from around the square.  (Interesting observation – if a tree is in your way, build around it!)

(Note the large tree coming out of the outdoor seating area for this restaurant.)

(Doesn’t this look VERY similar to the church in Castro?)

After the bus tour we headed out for Milodon Cave.  The Milodon was a giant sloth (7+ feet tall) that existed thousands of years ago.

The cave is more of a cove, but it was very deep and provided nice shelter from wind and rain.  This was another horrendously windy day and we very much appreciated the shelter!  We also enjoyed yet another beautiful view of Paines del Torres National Park.

And here is a representation of what Milodon (the giant sloth) looked like. (Our tour guide indicated he more resembled a bear than the general thoughts of what a sloth should look like.)

And of course, here is Jay, re-enacting how the Milodon likely would have reacted to the explorers invading his cave (had he still been alive / around).

From here, it was back to the Nansen.

We did see a couple of Puerto Natales landmarks on the way back in, a most interesting sculpture, as well as the remains of the old pier (the pilings sticking up out of the sea).

In the late afternoon/early evening, we set sail for territory unknown!  (unknown to us that is!)  Stay tuned for more excitement!!
