First full day at sea, headed to Antarctica!  The seas were churning, but nothing like they were days ago when the wind and seas wreaked havoc onboard!  Swell / waves are only 5 to 6 meters, as compared to the 8 to 10 from a few days ago.

The only significant task on the schedule today was getting fitted for boots.  Tourism on Antarctica follows strict guidelines, including the clothes/shoes worn while on the continent.  This is one measure that prevents introduction of non-native species of any kind.

The ship provides to each passenger boots that have been painstakingly cleaned.  The ship’s staff literally uses picks and brushes to remove every little pebble and speck of dirt from each boot, over a period of several weeks, before it’s considered safe to wear on shore.  Tomorrow we have to prepare our personal effects that we will take ashore.

Again, sorry no pictures…  that’s the (blog) downside of at-sea-days.
